    Her               family               moved               to               Hawaii               several               years               later,               where               they               have               owned               several               small               businesses.

    Her               father               Mike               Gabbard               has               been               a               Hawaiian               State               Senator               since               2006.

    She               is               a               graduate               of               Hawaii               Pacific               University               where               she               studied               international               business.

    In               2002,               Gabbard               became               the               youngest               person               ever               elected               to               the               state               legislature               of               Hawaii.
                   After               serving               one               term               in               the               legislature,               Gabbard               voluntarily               deployed               to               Iraq               with               the               National               Guard.

    She               received               the               "Meritorious               Service               Medal"               for               the               time               that               she               served               near               Baghdad.

    After               excelling               in               Officer               Candidate               School               at               Fort               McClellan,               Gabbard               again               deployed               to               the               Middle               East               in               2008               as               a               Military               Police               platoon               leader.

    In               2011,               she               became               a               Captain               in               the               Hawaiian               National               Guard.
                   Tulsi               Gabbard               was               elected               to               the               City               Council               in               Honolulu               in               2010.

    In               addition,               she               has               served               as               an               aide               to               Senator               Daniel               Akaka,               and               founded               the               Healthy               Hawaii               Coalition,               a               group               which               focuses               on               environmental               and               health               issues.
                   Tulsi               Gabbard               has               a               resume               befitting               a               life               of               service,               and               yet               she               is               only               thirty-one               years               of               age.

    It               will               be               fascinating               to               watch               her               career               as               she               takes               her               seat               in               the               United               States               House               of               Representatives               in               January,               2013.
